High School Scholarships
Are you an Adams Electric member and the parent of a high school senior? Adams Electric offers $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors, who are sons and daughters of co-op members. Applications, deadlines and the decision-making process vary depending on the school each student attends. Please read the options below to see which option applies to you or your local high school senior.
High school seniors attending Dallastown, Dover, Gettysburg, Kennard-Dale, Red Lion, South Western, Spring Grove or Susquehannock must apply through their own schools’ individual Dollars for Scholars application process for the co-op funded $1,000 scholarship. Students should check with their guidance counselor for an application and to receive application deadlines and application instructions (including completion of the Suggested Parental Contribution form from DFS). Recipients are chosen by each school’s Dollars for Scholars program and then approved by the Adams Electric board of directors.
High school seniors attending Bermudian Springs, Biglerville, Big Spring, Chambersburg, Fairfield, Littlestown, New Oxford, Northern or Shippensburg must go online through the Adams County Dollars for Scholars (DFS) web portal at www.adamscountydfs.org to apply for a $1,000 Adams Electric funded scholarship at their school. Applicants must create a login on the site to apply. Applications must be submitted thru the DFS web portal by April 14, 2017, to be considered. Recipients are selected by the Adams County Community Foundation, on behalf of Adams Electric, and then approved by the co-op’s board of directors. High school seniors attending vocational, technical, cyber, private and home schools in upper Franklin, lower Cumberland, Adams and southern and western York counties can apply here Applications must be submitted online between Jan. 1, 2017, and March 15, 2017, to qualify. Recipients are selected by Adams Electric’s Scholarship Committee and recommended to the board of directors for final approval. A transcript, recent SAT/ACT combined scores, Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Electronic Student Aid Report (SAR) cover sheet showing Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) number and head and shoulders photo are required of each applicant. To qualify for a high school scholarship, each applicant must meet the following criteria:
The student, a senior in high school, must have at least one parent or guardian currently receiving electric service from Adams Electric with an account(s) in good standing, and the parent or guardian must live in Pennsylvania at the time of the student’s application for a scholarship.
The student must get accepted into a post-secondary program or an accredited institution (two-year, four-year or technical).
The student should maintain a cumulative high school grade-point average of 2.5 or above. (GPA and most recent SAT/ACT scores are required with application.)
The student should show a financial need for post-high school education assistance.
The student should show a commitment to community service.
Any scholarship recipient shall be allowed to retain their scholarship for one year from selection, even if they have dropped or are auditing courses, as long as they are still incurring expenses equal to or greater than the amount of the scholarship. (Funds are dispersed in $500 increments per semester, directly to the school a recipient will attend.)
All scholarships shall be in effect for one year from the date they are approved by the Board of Directors.
Adams Electric Cooperative employees, directors, scholarship committee members and previous Adams Electric scholarship recipients are not eligible.
Adams Electric scholarships are funded by unclaimed Ownership Rewards money. No funding is received through rates.
