Adams Electric receives American Heart Association wellness awards
Adams Electric Cooperative has been selected for the third year in a row as a Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for helping employees eat better and become more physically active. The cooperative also received the American Heart Association’s newest award; bronze level recognition in the Workplace Health Achievement Index, a science-based and evidence-informed measurement that assesses and recognizes workplace health programs.
Adams Electric was recognized for offering employees physical activity options in the workplace; providing/increasing healthy eating options in the workplace; implementing criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture; demonstrating measureable outcomes related to wellness in the workplace and promoting a wellness culture.
The co-op’s Workplace Health Achievement Index score is based on seven behaviors and metrics ideal for heart health. The index recognizes companies both on the structure of the workplace health program and employee’s heart health.
“These programs are a benefit to our employees’ health and to our overall workforce,” said Steve Rasmussen, Adams Electric CEO/general manager.
Adams Electric launched its wellness program in 2009 and continues to expand its wellness initiatives each year. The annual program includes the recent addition of on-site fitness equipment, plus annual health screenings, walking programs, brain health initiatives, weight management programs and newsletter campaigns. The co-op also introduced its Light the Way 5K in 2015.
